  1. U r forgetting two things...artists DONT HAVE TO BE ENGINEERS...and second that not all artists are newbies. in the end of the day there is no comparison. Engineers are paid to read books and know technical stuff...artists do it because they are trying as you said to reach a spesific sound. If you want a polished perfect recording for ONE ALBUM (u r an artist remember) r u going to spend 10k upwards on a small home studio or use the same amount of money to go into a very expensive studio and record? Home studio IS lo-fi by design. Not compared so much to rock music but much bigger productions. All im saying is that a good song will remain a good song even if the noise is too much or whatever. And never forget that just because you read something about someone it doesnt mean its true. ESPECIALLY when talking about musicians and their recordings.
  2. If you read everything again ull realise that im not saying that knowledge is bad. And the reason i asked you if u r a composer of an engineer is just that. If you were a composer im sure u'd feel that all the knowledge in the world combined with the best equipment is not enough if u have no ideas. Of course you need the knowledge to implement those ideas and the equipment to record BUT music history is full of important and influential songs that were cheaply recorded. Anyway dont you think its a bit strange that we are typing in two different languages rather than one typed in a slightly different way?
  3. ...errrm you obvioulsy mean that the dark side of the moon by pink floyd is crap because it was recorded in 4 tracks. Also you obviously think that older recordings are crap because they are not recorded in 96khz, and maybe you will possibly deny the fact that people couldnt care less if your recording was done at home on a single computer (fatboy slim, moby...). Noone said that the numbers dont matter. But if you are going to use £5000 monitors not only you need to be pretty damn good but you need to make sure you stay on that level of quality meaning room, desk, comps, fx and everything else. thats why you record on any system (even on a 4 cassette track) and you master at the most expensive suites. I dont know if you are a composer yourself or an engineer but dont get too greek and imply that i dont know what im talking about. Finally if you read carefully what i wrote youll realise that i didnt say greeklish is censorship it was meant to be a joke meaning all kinds of rules are a form of cencorship. There is no point taking it personally. i have a different opinion thats all. i just do not believe that recording knowledge makes any different whatsoever in the success proccess. PRODUCTION DOES, MARKETING DOES, MASTERING DOES. recording quality is a choice of production (are you going to argue about the strokes too?) In my opinion its tje reason greek musisians never made it outside greece. Everyone thinks that recording have to be perfect. Thats why im saying you need to listen to more music rather than read about it. What does everyone else think?
  4. im not even going to comment on you views on greeklish (as you see i do it by the rules) but i hope you never start a thread on censorship. Anyway...i can assure you that by the time i was 20 that i went to university i knew enough about compression to be bored on the course. and i didnt even have my own studio. And i didnt have a library full of books. It takes years but thats what its supposed to to be like. You think that by buying a shiny new pc and cubase or whatever with the manuals and the books that go with it you will make great music? Not in a million years unless you realise that what youre doing sounds good too. Everything is part of the equation. Reading too but access to resourses too, outside influence too and of course inside inspiration. I m not trying to go against anyone but in my experience there are so many musicians that talk about whether this is plugin is better than that etc and they dont get to the actual music. I have a friend you owns a great home studio for about 10 years now, hes like a walking talking recording manual, knows everything there is to know abou recording and stuff and you know what... he's only recorded 2 songs and they are not even songs they are sample exersises. im not saying everyone is like that but dont you think that its a bit daft to say behringer is crap or behringer is goood? Everything is relevant to everything. knowing little is much worse than knowing nothing. plus you missed my point about corporations. Im saying that everyone makes money behringer make money too artists make money too but how much DO they make?6-7% at best from the sales...50% at best from broadcasting(which the publisher provides)?and how much does a company makes?all the rest... and its not because of the manufacturing costs...its because of marketing. Thats my point. You are not paying for the product itself but for the means that they forced you to buy it with. Finally did i ever say that a user will start from scrach? No but the trick is to read, apply, experiment, and most importantly listen to other peoples work. simple.
  5. personally i would go for those... [http://www.turnkey.co.uk/tkweb/stockdetail.jsp?sku=SAMS-RESO80A&context=WEB] but have a look around, Behringer truth is not a bad option really(i have tested them) but its all down to the acoustics as i said before. Are you certain you actually need something better that that? Oh and by the way these are high street prices as you see so im guessing you can get them cheaper on ebay or sth like that.[/url]
  6. Anyone wondered WHY we choose to not pay for software tho?Have you heard of the CDWOW case in the UK? Do you know where Nike and Adidas make their products? Do you know the actual cost of software/harware?How about the fact that the biggest part of the budget goes to marketing that developing? The truth is that you dont need all plugins to make great music. In fact even if you have everysingle plugin in the universe you still wont make great music if you havent got good ideas. But if you were to buy 2-3 plugins because you were FORCED to buy them through clever marketing of course (same as hardware) only to find out that in two months time they introduced a bigger more complete solution to your needs and they are oh so kind to give you a discount to upgrade. Corporations make money and thats it. Even corporations that sell books make money. How many books on mixing have you read that say the exact same things? My opinion is : if it sounds good, it IS good. I will not give my music a boring by the book production just because this is the "right" way. I think its best to try as much as you can and in the end when you finally decide what is best for your needs you buy (at a low price). I ve been through most DAWs , from acid to pro tools and i can honestly say that protools is comeletely useless for the small /midrange studio considering you cant take advantage of every single feature. Different needs require different solutions. Plugins dont bring inspiration and books dont bring inspiration either. For me the best school is listening to a lot of music and take it from there. oh and sorry i wish i could type in greeklish but...
  7. Is everybody trying to say that you have such great acoustics in your rooms that you can actually tell the difference between the behringers and the others? Acoustics is the no1 priority not speakers in a home/project studio. However on that budget you have plenty of other options.
