A few tips for getting the most out of your RP1000/RP500:
- Before attempting 4CM, try connecting to the FX Return of your amp or the input of a power amp or studio monitors. Some people might like plugging the RP to the input of a guitar amp, I think it sounds like absolute crap and wouldn't do it, ever
- ALWAYS turn the speaker compensation switch in the back to the "Mixer" position
- If your patches sound too compressed, BACK DOWN THE GAIN until they sound more dynamically responsive
- Turn off the noise gate if possible, or keep its parameters to a minimum. Threshold 25, attack 0, release 0 and attenuation 25 should be enough to hear just a hint of noise without sacrificing too much of your tone. Hint: if at these settings there's too much noise even with a humbucker-equipped guitar, you're likely using too much gain in your patch.
- Turn treble down a bit in the amp module, turn the EQ on and give it +1 treble at 4000Hz, this will kinda act as a presence control
- Try putting a tube driver pedal in the stompbox effects loop of the RP1000, I have one and although I don't think I necessarily have to use it to get great tones out of my unit, it does help a bit when I'm chasing after some specific sounds
- If you find the classic "compressor+chorus" combo doesn't sound right, try selecting "PRE" as the chorus position in the FX module, it sounds better for this application this way
If even after following these steps you still think the RP1000 sucks, you probably need an AxeFX or a real tube amp. I do find it weird though that the OP never replied again in this thread. If you're a viral marketer from Line6 or something like that I really hope you rot in hell.
